Manage General Site Settings

WARNING: If you have access to the General site settings, we recommend that you read the information below and/or consult with your Contegro product specialist before making any changes. It is important that you understand the impact that any changes may have on your website.

Contegro Start > Administrations >Site Settings > General

To update the general site settings, open the Contegro start menu and select Administration > Site Settings > General.

Adjust the settings and [Save].

Save

In the general site settings, you can manage the:

Main Settings - Set your site name and description, image/document folder source site, default home page & template and site language

Server Settings - Set your site mail server, webmaster name and email address

Folder Locations - Set the folder location for your website templates, cascading style sheets (CSS), images and documents

File Settings - Set the document, image and media file maximum upload size and file types allowed on your website

Icon Associations - Add icons to help your site visitors to visually distinguish between the document and file types listed in your website search results

Password Policy - Tighten the security of your website administrator and member accounts - set the minimum password length and requirements to help prevent hacking

Functions - Manage Google Analytics tracking code, combine and minify your website files to improve performance, enable mega menus, manage header code, etc

reCAPTCHA - Enable Google's reCAPTCHA control to protect your website from spam and abuse while letting real people pass through with ease

Account Lockout - Manage the number of login attempts before an administrator or member account is locked

 


Main Settings

Set your website name and description, image/document folder source site, default home page, page template and site language.

Site Settings > General > Main Settings

Name

Set your site name.

Your site name appears in several areas of the Contegro admin console including the site tree (Editor), site selector menu (Taskbar) and RSS feeds generated in core and add-on list modules. The site name is also injected whereever the [SiteName] variable is used i.e. email notifications.

 

WARNING: Changing the site name affects your website database.  We do not recommend changing this setting once your site has been created.

Description

Enter a brief description about your website (e.g. Corporate website, Online shop, etc).

The description is only visible in this area, it is not published any on your website.

 

Image Folder
Source Site

Select the website image folder you would like to use to to manage image files for this website.

If you manage multiple Contegro websites in the same environment, this setting is useful for accessing images that have been uploaded to one of the other websites.

 

NOTE:  (i) If this site is selected as the image folder source for another site in the same environment, this field will not be editable.  (ii) If you choose to source images from another site, you will not have access to any images you upload directly to this site.

Documents Folder Source Site

Select the website document folder you would like to use to manage document files for this website.

If you manage multiple Contegro websites in the same environment, this setting is useful for accessing documents that have been uploaded to one of the other websites.

 

NOTE:  (i) If this site is selected as the document source for another site in the same environment, this field will not be editable.  (ii) If you choose to source documents from another site, you will not have access to any documents you upload directly to this site.

Folder Name

This field displays the name of the sub folder (i.e. /Data/[SITE]) that contains your website templates, CSS, images, media, etc.

 

Note: This folder is created at the time that your site is built.  You will need a FTP login to access some of the files mentioned above.

Home Page

Set the target page for your primary domain name.

Click on the [...] dotted button to open and select a page in the site tree pop up.

 

NOTE: This setting is updated by your Contegro product specialist when your website is built.  If you create a new 'Home' page, be sure to update this setting and ensure that your primary  domain name is pointing to the correct Home page.

Default Template

Set the default template that will be selected in the Template field whenever a new page is added.

 

TIP: The default page template setting can be changed when adding a new webpage or editing an existing webpage in the Editor.

Language

Set your site language.

This setting allows you to manage the globalization culture (default formatting) for your website.  For example if your target market is in the U.S., you would select 'English (United States)' in the dropdown to ensure that the date format for content such as blog articles on your site is displayed as 'MM/DD/YYYY'.

Force Secure Protocol

Globally enable HTTPS protocol on your website.

Note: Enabling this setting will remove the Secure Page tickbox from the page Attributes tab.


Server Settings

Site Settings > General > Server Settings

Mail Server

Set the mail server IP address for your website.

 

WARNING: Do not update this setting unless authorised to do so as any errors will result in automated emails (sent from your website) not reaching the intended recipient(s).

Webmaster Email

Enter the email address for your primary website contact/administrator.

This email is displayed whenever the [Webmaster Email] variable is used - e.g. the Invalid Account Login message.

Webmaster Name

Enter the name of your website contact/administrator.

This email is displayed whenever the [Webmaster Name] variable is used - e.g. the Invalid Account Login message.


Folder Locations

WARNING: We do not advise changing these settings without first consulting with your Contegro product specialist.

Note: The following fields are available on websites that were upgraded from Contegro v3 to Contegro v4.  New Contegro v4 sites use a unique folder structure for managing your website CSS, templates, etc.  Please consult with your Contegro product specialist before making any changes to the folder locations.

Site Settings > General > Folder Locations

Templates

Enter the name of the folder (on your server) where your website templates ares stored.

Stylesheets

Enter the name of the  folder (on your server) where your website cascading style sheets (CSS) are stored .

Images

Enter the name of the  folder (on your server) where your website images are saved.

Documents

Enter the name of the  folder (on your server) where your website documents are saved (including Flash and Media files).


File Settings

Document Manager

Site Settings > General > File Settings > Document Manager

File Types

Enter the document file types/extensions you would like to upload to the document file manager.

Use a comma to separate document types - e.g. pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, zip

 

Maximum File Size (KB)

Set the maximum document upload size (in kilobytes).

This setting is used when files are uploaded to the document file manager.

 

Note: Your website web.config file has a default limit of 20 megabytes (MB). If you attempt to set the max. file size higher than 20480 kilobytes (KB), the web.config limit will override this setting. If you want to increase the 20 MB limit, you will need  FTP access to the web.config file.

Maximum concurrent uploads

Set the maximum number of documents that can be uploaded at one time.

This setting is used by the document manager to determine how many documents can be selected for upload at one time.

Document Download 'insufficient permissions' message

Use this field to manage the message that appears when a link to a member only document is selected on your website.

Document links display a notification if the target document has set permissions and your site visitors are not members or logged in.

 

TIP - Use basic HTML to add links or format your message (as shown in the example below):
 
"This content is for our website members only.<br /><br />Please <a href="/login">login</a> or <a href="/register">register</a> to view or download this document."

Document Download
'document deleted' message

Use this field to manage the message that appears when a link to a deleted document is selected on your website.

Document links display a notification if the target document has set permissions and your site visitors are not members or logged in.

 

TIP - Use basic HTML to add links or format your message (as shown in the example below):
 
"We're sorry - this document has been deleted and is no longer available for download from our website.<br /><br />Please <a href="mailto:webmaster@contegrocms.com?Subject=Report Broken Document Link">email our webmaster</a> to notify us of this issue."

Flash Manager

Site Settings > File Settings > Flash Manager

Maximum file size (KB)

Set the maximum upload size (in kilobytes) for flash (.swf) files.

This setting is used when files are uploaded to the Flash Manager.

 

Media Manager

Site Settings > File Settings > Media Manager

File Types

Enter the file types/extensions that you would like to upload to the media manager.

 

Note: You must include an asterisk (*) and period (.) before the file extension. eg: MP3 files should be added as *.mp3 not .mp3

Maximum file size (KB)

Set the maximum upload size (in kilobytes) for media files.

This setting is used when files are uploaded to the media manager.

 

Image Manager

Site Settings > File Settings > Image Manager

Image Types

Enter the image file types/extensions you would like to upload to the image file manager.

Use a comma to separate image types - e.g. gif, jpg, jpeg, png

 

Maximum image size (KB)

Set the maximum upload size (in kilobytes) for image files.

This setting is used when files are uploaded to the image file manager.

Maximum concurrent uploads

Set the maximum number of images that can be uploaded at one time.

This setting is used by the image manager to determine how many images can be selected for upload at one time.

 

Maximum width

Set the maximum image width (in pixels).

This setting is applied as a default value in the 'Optimise on Upload > Maximum Width' field in the Image Manager.

 

Maximum height

Set the maximum image height (in pixels).

This setting is applied as a default value in the 'Optimise on Upload > Maximum Height' field in the Image Manager.

 

DPI

Set the image resolution.

This setting is applied to images when the 'Optimise on Upload tickbox is checked (at the time of upload).

Thumbnail Width

Set  the maximum thumbnail image width in pixels.

Thumbnail Height

Set  the default maximum thumbnail image height in pixels.


Icon Associations

This is a designer tool used to customise search results icons (displayed alongside document/image results).

Site Settings > General > Icon Associations

File Extension

Use this field to specify which file extension(s) will display the icon set (see below) in the search results.

Icon Location

Set the search results icon displayed for the file extension(s) listed.

 

Note: Upload icon files to the image file manager.

New Association

Click to add more 'File Extention(s)' and 'Icon Location' fields.

 

TIP: To delete an icon association, delete text in the File Extension(s) and Icon Location fields then click [Save].


Password Policy

Site Settings > General > Password Policy

Minimum Password Length

Enter the minimum password length for administrator and member accounts.

This setting is used by the member registration, shopping cart billing and profile modules.  It is also applied to the Password field in the Member & Administrator account management tabs.

Password Must Meet Complexity Requirements

If you would like to apply the predefined complexity requirements to administrator and member account passwords, check this box.

 

The complexity requirements are:

Password must not equal the member login name (or admin account username)

Password must not equal the email address

Password must not be sequential numbers (ie: 123456789)

Password must not be sequential letters (ie: abcdefghi)

Password must not match a list of disallowed passwords*

 

*Please contact your Contegro product specialist for a full list of disallowed passwords.

Password Must Include

Check one or more boxes if you would like to these rules to to administrator and member account passwords.

Passwords will require a minimum of one of the following if checked:

Uppercase letter

Lowercase letter

Number

Special Character


Functions

Site Function Settings

Revision Limit

Set the maximum number of page and menu item revisions stored in the Revisions tab in the Editor.

When the limit is reached the oldest revision is deleted when the next revision is saved.

 

Purge Cycle

Set the frequency for purging deleted items.

Deleted items (such as pages, menu items, blogs, events, etc) are moved to the recycle bin. When the purge cycle runs, they are permanently deleted. For example if the purge cycle frequency is set to 3 months, deleted items are moved to the recycle bin for 3 months; after which they are permanently deleted).

 

Maximum Menu Text Length

Sets the maximum character limit for page and menu labels.

Breadcrumbs On

Uncheck this box to hide the bread crumb on all your webpages (that contain a bread crumb module).

Keyword Meta Tag

If you would like to add Keyword (meta tags) to your webpages for SEO purposes, check this box.

This setting controls whether the Keywords field is displayed in the page Attributes.

Mega Menus On

Check this box to enable the Mega Menu.

The Mega Menu tab is hidden if this box is unchecked.

 

Delay _____ ms (max 2000ms) - Set the time it takes for the mega menu to close when the users moves their mouse away. The default setting is 500ms.

Use Tracking Code

If you would like to add tracking code to your webpages, check this box.

When the 'Use Tracking Code' box is checked, the code entered in the field below will be placed at the bottom of every page on your site.

Tracking Code

Copy and paste tracking code from your Google Analytics account.

Tracking code is a snippet of JavaScript that collects and sends data to Google Analytics from your website.

 

SEO Tip: If this site is setup with ecommerce (i.e. Image Gallery and Shopping Cart modules or Product Catalogue and Shopping Cart modules), please ensure that the 'Use Tracking Code' site setting is enabled; as this will allow the Shopping Cart module to automatically generate Google Analytics ecommerce tracking script. Note: The Google Analytics 'E-Commerce tracking' setting must be set to 'Yes, an E-Commerce site' in the Profile Settings.

Show Full Site Tree When Page Number Less Than

Use this field to manage the loading performance of a large site tree within the Editor.

If the number of active pages in the site tree exceeds the number set in this field, the site tree will only load (first level) parent pages. Any child items (i.e. pages, 301 redirects and menu items) will only load when the parent is expanded.

Header Code

Use this field to add HTML to the page head tag.

Combine and Minify

Uncheck these boxes if you do not wish to combine and minify your JavaScript and CSS files.

Combine and minify files to help improve your website performance.

Doctype

Set the doctype for your site to XHTML or HTML 5.

XHTML (EXtensible HyperText Markup Language) is HTML written as XML. HTML 5 is a revision of the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the standard programming language for describing the contents and appearance of web pages.


reCAPTCHA

Site Settings > General > reCAPTCHA

Public Key

Enter the site key generated here - http://google.com/recaptcha

Private Key

Enter the secret key generated here - http://google.com/recaptcha

Account Lockout

Site Settings > General > Account Lockout

Lockout Threshold

Set the max. number of login attempts that a member or administrator can make before their account is locked.

Accounts can be manually unlocked in the admin or member account managers.

Set the duration before a locked member or administrator account is reactivated.
Accounts can be manually unlocked in the admin or member account managers.
